DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

INTRODUCTION

Our department is responsible for meeting the psychiatric inpatient and outpatient needs of the 300,000 inhabitants of the city of Pécs and its surroundings. 
We treat patients in our hierarchical medical system in which we closely involve our students. 
Our staff is also involved in research (general investigations and clinical trials), teaching 
(undergraduate and postgraduate training in Hungarian, English and German) and professional 
public activities.

Our main areas of health care provision are addictions (alcohol, drugs), depressive states, crises, psychoses, personality disorders, and mental disorders in the elderly.

Our chief therapeutic forms are drug treatments, psychotherapies and sociotherapies, but any other special forms of care are also available. The wide range of diagnostics extends from the psychological tests to modern imaging studies.

The department has decades of experience in clinical trials. We test new therapeutic preparations related to affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), psychoses (schizophrenia) and dementias (Alzheimer's disease).
